2011 - Executive Board Elections

Post by Giovanni Jaramillo »

The 2011 elections for the Executive Board will be voted on in October and nominations are now being taken. They started last night at the meeting. The Executive Board is comprised of the Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, and Treasurer. It is not guaranteed that the incumbent regime will stay on, but those that do want to stay on have nominated themselves, as well as others from the Committee have nominated themselves.

What the Committee/E-Board is also asking for is "new blood", so as a reminder, we are posting this notice. If you love the sport and want to see the "machinations" of how things work and want to help out and contribute, submit your name to your club rep and he/she will nominate you, or even better, show up at the Committee/E-Board meeting and nominate yourself.

We have monthly meetings via conference call except for 2 where we meet live in person. We met last night, and we'll meet again on the 3rd Wednesday of next month (Oct. 20th) at Coco's Restaurant in Covina (Azusa Ave - just north of the I-10 Fwy). Please see calendar for details.

Other positions under the E-Board (Special Activity Committee) (see the Contacts link on the main Solo2.com site for those positions) are by appointment only by the Chairperson. So if you'd like to run for those as well, then once the Chairperson is chosen he/she will appoint you if there needs to be a change or if the position is vacant.

Also if you'd like to run for Club Representative of you respective club, then speak to your club members and nominate yourself within your club.

One of the perks of the job is the following year, per the Supp Regs, you do get discounted price entry to our championship events.

If you'd like to nominate yourself of someone else, I recommend doing it here so all the club reps may consider your nominee before polling their members for the vote at the next meeting.

If you wait until the meeting to be nominated, the club reps may not have an opportunity to do the groundwork needed to vote for you.

Good luck everyone! And thank you for posting Gio.

So how do we express interest in the following SAC positions? It will be nice to express interest ahead of time so that the new Chairperson has a pool of people to nominate from.

Membership Chairman
Timing & Scoring Wizard
Pointskeepers/Historian
Equipment Managers
Lot Chairpersons
Divisional Chairperson(s)
Divisional Solo Steward
Novice Coordinators
Chief of Waivers
Webmasters
Forums Administrator

Thanks.

Simple. Just by posting on this thread which position you're interested in, just like you did here Theo, lets us know.

Most of those jobs are chosen by the board, not elected. Some are jobs that are big Cal Club or national positions.

Thanks for the clarification Aaron, I meant to say appointment not nominate. Do you mind identifying those position that are off limit so that people don't waste their time? That way there will be a list of position that people can express interest in so that the Chairperson can have a list of people to choose from as they see fit of course.

Thanks.

I would say (and this is just my opinion) that the above ones I selected from Aaron's list are ones that would be beneficial if you had experience, though not a requirement.

Traditionally that SEB hasn't cared who the region chair thought the Divisional Solo Steward or Divisonal Solo Safety Steward should be.

Aint my list.

Most of that other list are just jobs you volunteer for or just talk to whoever is doing it now and see if they need help.

Gio since you are membership chairman, are you willing to let a "new blood" shadow the webmaster as co-webmaster? Lot's of smart kids in the club, this could be a way to get them more involved.

Your choice of word is incorrect (i.e. "willing"). I don't decide anything. If someone wants to help out (they are free to ask). As for the amount of work, there's not much to maintain. Again we have 2 webmasters (myself and Will Kalman). We are in the process of looking at moving to a new host and merging the 2 together, etc... There are 2 parts to the online presence. Solo2.com (main site), and Forums.solo2.com. The main site is just static where I update the calendar once a year, and also post the minutes. The forum is controlled by Aaron.

I agree, the way you get more involved is by just getting more involved. If you have something you want to work on, talk to folks about it and get to doin. Almost everyone on that list didn't start doing that because there was a casting call, we just saw a need and started working on it.

Aaron, I am not interested in any on these things so please don't take my efforts here as an encroachment on any position. I am simply looking at the the first post that mention the desire to get *new blood* engaged and the reality of how things look to a "new blood" which is there is no opportunity to get more involved without someone getting mad at you. That will prety much scare "new bloods" away.

It's not sufficient to say we want to encourage new blood, when it looks like we really don't want to. Just saying

You misunderstand me, i'm just trying to give you information. Feel free to run for any of the three elected positions or club rep of your club, also feel free to learn the timing equipment or make a new points spreadsheet or get some web space and put something on it that helps out the club.

Actually Christine does the individual event points calculations and running totals for the competitors.

I do the various team points calcs and maintain the lifetime points spreadsheet and historian function. I am willing to continue to do it next year.
