Notable recipients have included Terry Labonte, Bill Elliott, Dale Earnhardt, Ivan Stewart, and Brett Hearn. While Doganis has the honor of being included with this list of racing legends, he also has the distinction of being the first rally racer in North America to receive this award.
This is a very big deal, and major kudos to George for the accomplishment.
When I think of George D, I am always reminded of the Pro Solo where I noticed he was working the difficult finish in my heat that year. I was never so nervous driving an event saddled with the pressure of not wanting to screw up a tough turn nor wanting to wuss out and drive it slow either in front of somebody I respect so much.

I should also point out that George's navigator, Tom S., deserves a lot of the credit for this amazing achievement. Tom has been through a couple of nasty crashes with George over the years, and has taken it all in stride. His talents are of course crucial to the team's success.
