Is Bottled Water Better?

Post by George Schilling »

We were discussing the power of marketing this morning as it relates to filtered/bottled water and relating stories on how we have broken family members from the notion that bottled water is superior to most tap water. I pulled up one of my favorite BS episodes to illustrate the point. We were all laughing so hard that I thought I'd share in case you hadn't seen it or just want to watch it again and get a good laugh. So here it is.

Bottled water's overrated. I tried it for a while, but kept having to add a little chromium for taste.

Speaking of chromium in water, I wonder how many people know that Erin Brockovich's lawsuit in Hinkley was also BS.

From what I remember in Environment class, I think the irrigation water (and toilet water) that we aren't suppose to drink is filtered even cleaner than tap water. However, because it's been "used"/recycled (by humans, not by nature), it is no longer deemed worthy for human consumption.

I've gotten used to the taste of the tap water & filtered water from my house. Tap water at other places sometimes taste weird - something in the pipes, I swear!

Oh, my favorite bottled water style is FIJI, they look so cool! My favorite water marketing company is Evian - they had a campaign of sexy ads in Maxim a long time ago.

Now THAT'S marketing! ;)

Road trip to Vegas to watch the Indy 500 and bet on the race. 4 guys piled into my Mustang LX 5.0L Sport. We stop for gas in Baker. We're late, in a hurry. First my buddy is complaining because they don't have any blue label sparkletts. Its the only bottled water he'll drink. I tell him get a Dr. Pepper. Gesh. He relents and grabs an Arrowhead. I think that's bad. We go back to the car and realize that our 4th isn't there. He isn't in the mini mart at the gas station. We figure bathroom... Then we catch sight of him crossing the street running towards us with a stricken look on his face.

"We have to find a different store, neither of these two stores have Evian."

Seriously?

"I can only drink Evian, it has less minerals. I can't drink any other water. Doctors orders."

Get in the car. They'll have Evian at Caesars.

"I need to drink now. Find a grocery store."

I very nearly left him in Baker at 6am on a Sunday morning. At least it wasn't too hot yet. And even though its bat country, those godless beasts have enough sense to sleep in. }:)

Along those same lines, my step daughter is big into the holistic food, medicine, life thing. Whenever we meet for dinner I get the lecture about eating right, yada, yada, yada. I finally shut her up by saying, "Every adult male in our family, except two, going back at least three generations has died from Alcoholism. Do you really think eating organic, free range chicken is going to significantly affect my survival chances? BTW... if you continue this conversation I'm going to need a drink."

I should point out he got in the car. I drove straight to Caesars. There would be no grocery store stops if he wanted to avoid the bats. That was the same year I caused a scene at the sports book. I was listening to the radio coverage with an ear piece. On the warm up laps I said, $500 that Roberto Guererro is first one out. Next lap around, he smacks it into the infield wall before the race even starts. Immediately people yell that the tv coverage isn't live (and the betting windows are still open). Suits run out and grab my radio and listen to it. After a bit of shaking their heads and quizzical looks they returned my radio and left. Radio was live. TV was live. I always bet on Roberto "Happy Boy" Guererro to be first out.

That was the trip where my friends learned that I could count cards. Which led to a second trip soon after where I got banned from Vegas casinos.
