Question on number of trophies per class

Post by Davin Swanson »

Could someone clarify the rules on how many trophies are awarded per class? I was surprised (but don't get me wrong, thrilled  ) to see in the results that I trophied yesterday in SK2, coming in 3rd out of 7 entrants. In looking back in the events that I've run since I started last September, there seems to be some inconsistency:

January SK2: 3 trophies, 7 entrants
December SK2: 3 trophies, 13 entrants
November SK2: 2 trophies, 8 entrants
October SK2: 3 trophies, 8 entrants
September SK2: 3 trophies, 7 entrants

The outlier is really the November result... it seems like there should have been 3 trophies instead of 2. In any case, I looked at the 2012 supps and under SK2 it says that trophies will be awarded in accordance with Para. 7.12, but there is no 7.12. There is a 7.11 for regional championships, which states "Open classes – One for 3 entrants, two for 5 entrants, one for each add’l 5." That seems to indicate that it's September, October and January that are the outliers.

I'm confused!

The computer generated results don't always indicate correct trophies, to be sure you should see the supplemental regulations:

"7.11 REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDS
Awards are awarded in the following manner:
a. Open classes – One for 3 entrants, two for 5 entrants, one for each additional 5.
b. Ladies classes – One for 3 entrants, one for each additional 3.
c. FJ classes – One for 2 entrants, one for each additional 3"

For you, that means 10 entrants in SK2 will give 3 trophies.

We should probably copy this over to the Newbie section. (No offense, Davin!)

OK, that's what I was afraid of, no trophy for me! So the trophy listings in the posted results are not official even if the times are. Is there a way to fix the software that generates the results to reflect the correct number of trophies?

Leonard, no offense taken, I'm still a newb. But I'm catching up to you old farts.

Looking forward to it.

Also, sorry that the class split resulted in you not getting a trophy (but we already talked about that).

Actually the results should normally be correct. I updated the software version on Saturday and forgot to change the trophy stuff from the default to our setup.

Related question. We were really disappointed not to find a trophy for Robert in the trophy box.
He moved up to FJB in December and placed 2nd out of 6 in his first event.

He was always signed up for trophies before. What happened?

Based on his performance in the January event he appears to be starting to take after his father and may not qualify for a trophy anytime soon.

You're either "signed up" for trophies or solo bux. In place of getting a trophy, you can choose to receive $10 that you can use towards future event entry fees. Unless you tell Gayle Jardine differently, you should be "signed up" for solo bux by default. If you prefer to get trophies, talk to Gayle.

Edit: fixed!

Thank you Jeff! BTW, we have yet to meet. My loss me thinks.

Close, but backwards. The default is Solo $. Trophies are only issued when specifically requested (to Gayle).

We had too many issues with "but I wanted Solo $" after paying and hauling around trophies.

Steve - email Gayle. It is much easier to reverse a Solo $ allocation and convert it to wood than to sell the pre-engraved wood on the open market to convert to Solo $. :D

There used to be a selection in the registration profile, but I couldn't find it this time. I guess every trophy is a request now, I find it hard to believe that all the trophies I saw in the box were the result of individual emails to Gayle.

Nope. They are the result of mostly bad data (Bad input? Bad data transfer? No one really knows.) They are mostly unwanted trophies, which is why we still have them. :) One of the reasons we adopted this system (default Solo $/request Trophy). Much easier (and cheaper) to fix this problem than the reverse.

Although I haven't been around that long, I do remember something wherby I had a choice between Trophy and Bucks. I'm sure I would have selected "trophy". Like Steve has mentioned, maybe it was "registration". No matter, about an hour ago I sent an email to Gayle.
