The good:
The car has been in the autocross family since new and we are the second owners. It was originally a North Carolina car and is currently located in Central California; to our knowledge it has never seen snow. It has just received a thorough detail (claybar, machine polish and wax). The Copper Red color pops in the sun and looks spectacular. It has been a reliable car without any mechanical issues. It made the cross-country drive from North Carolina to California without skipping a beat. It drives well and has rather good torque for a Miata.
The bad:
Some cone marks and rock chips commensurate with the mileage are present. The driver seat, steering wheel, floor mats and shift knob show some wear, as pictured. There is a small rock chip in the windshield, on the lower portion in the middle, which was there when we bought the car. It hasn't grown and it's easy to forget it's even there. In the interest of full disclosure, the car was in a fender-bender when it was a month old. The front bumper and passenger side fender were replaced. The paint match is spot-on. Also, the left rear JIC Magic shock does not adjust more than 1 click either direction. We haven't messed with the rear shocks anyway, we only adjust the fronts for balance.
The speed: This car is quick. The last three autocross events we did in the car I finished no lower than 2nd in PAX, on three very different courses. That doesn't happen as often for me as people might think.

This is the budget-friendly turnkey STR solution. A 5-speed NC has great gearing for most courses we see out here (and the majority of National-style courses too). There's usually no getting caught between gears or having to decide on the lesser of two evils (riding the limiter or chugging along in 3rd). Just drive.
