What to do w/ the leak?

Dismount the wheels & bring it back to the tire shop to have them figure out why the tire is leaking @ the bead.

Tire leak @ bead - remove wheels or use "flat tire repair"?

Post by Q V »

Has anyone run autocross after using the "flat tire repair"? I know it's gross & tire mounters hate it, but I'm hoping it works well. These tires are new, so if I use the flat repair, it will be for a while.

--------------------------------------------------

I had these mounted a couple weeks ago and finally put them on last week.

I thought it was weird that a couple tires had zero inflation - so I inflated them to 35 psi & popped them on.

Of course, I only realized that the tire was leaking AFTER mounting them.

I started backing out the car out of the driveway yesterday & the passenger front tire was flat! :(

It is losing about 3-4 psi/hour; I finally found the point of the leak(s) this morning while pumping up the tire:

It is leaking @ 2 points (that I can see): the big bubble & about 2" up from there - smaller bubble (residue of said bubble in the pic).

The driver side might also be leaking, but if it is, it is doing so very slowly (possibly 1-2 psi/day).

At this point, I have no clue if it's the rims (just bought them used, I don't think the previous tires were 0 psi, but I never ran them), the tires (just bought from a guy, but they were sitting in his basement 2-3 years), or the mounting (first time I've had them mount tires - rims were off the car when I had it done).

There is most likely junk between the wheel and tire, often this is a torn piece off your tire bead from some monkey not being careful.

I would not drive around the block.
You really need to pull the tires from the rims and see what the problem is.
You are probably okay to drive at LOW speed to the mounting place, but better off to carry them in.
You could have something as simple as crud on the bead seating surface. You could also have a porous rim or??

Thanks for the input guys. Tire shop checked it, turned out to be....

mud stuck between the bead & wheel!

How that mud got there, I have no clue. These tires & rims were sitting around for a bit.

I'm back in business, thanks!
