Where is the shot of the McLaren doing the liquid paint test? I've got to go to NASIOC F1 to find that minutia.

i'll openly admit that i'm a "fair weather fan".. in that i really don't keep up with off-season news (refernce my "what happened to the rear wing" comment on the new look of F1 thread).
i just enjoy the racing, every bit as much as i enjoy watching you guys duke it out on the asphalt ..
i get my info updates from the speedvision team in the prerace show, and commentaries..
having said all that, where can i find out more info about this US F1 team that they were talking about?!.. now THAT is some exciting news.
also, bring back indy..

Re: F1: Australian GP Results
Nice points, Mako!
Of all the gay staff members I worked with at the LAT, the only one who owned a Miata was a woman, who traded in an Outback for the Mazda. One of the gay guys on staff, who I interviewed for his first job, bought a last-gen five-speed Integra, which he invited me to drive. I did my best to demonstrate the Acura's braking and cornering chops, which he appreciated, ie, he bought that car because it was going to be reliable and sporty.
From my albeit limited observations, I'd peg minivans as the vehicle of choice for lesbians. That's based on only a few data points from years ago, so maybe they've all gone with Vettes now.

OK, but the minutia is available elsewhere: Racecar Engineering, Motor Sport, F1 Magazine.Mako Koiwai wrote:Where is the shot of the McLaren doing the liquid paint test? I've got to go to NASIOC F1 to find that minutia.![]()

As for the nationalistic bent, it has little to no value whatsoever, so waste your time?

I know ... actually just amusing to see the ridiculous trash talk ... that can lead to wars. Wait to you see "our" race fans going on about USF1. :gpower:As for the nationalistic bent, it has little to no value whatsoever, so waste your time?

I think its really funny when people talk about "passing" another car at an open track event.Karen said that I should tell you that she passed a Vette coming onto the Roval last friday during her NASA HPDE.

Re: F1: Australian GP Results
I replayed that a couple times on my DVR. I didn't understand why he was apologizing because it looked like a legitimate race incident, not some irresponsible action caused by foolish blocking.Jeff Shyu wrote: i honestly think that was vettle being a gentleman about it. he knew that he was falling off the pace, and he knew that the overtaking was a matter of time.
i think from that perspective, he might have been apologizing for ending the race for them both
In my opinion, he was apologizing to his crew for putting the car in the wall after the next turn. Had he slowed down to a more conservative speed, he probably could've avoided the extra damage.
Has anyone interviewed him about the incident and published a report?

http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2009/3/9098.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;“We were in second and a strong position, but then, a couple of laps from the end, I had a stupid racing accident with Robert,” explained Vettel. “At the time I turned in I was ahead, but I couldn't keep up speed in the corner and Robert was on a harder tyre, so was much quicker. At the time we collided he was in front, but I had no where to go, I couldn't stop the car, or turn to the right and my tyres were gone.
“Maybe I should have said let him go and bring third back home, but that's life. I tried to defend and, up to the mid-corner, I had reason, but then I had no grip to avoid a collision. I'm sorry to the team and also to Robert, as it didn't just mean the end of my race, but also his.”

Granted Truli was a bonehead to go off behind the Safety Car and should not have repassed, but what could he do when the McLaren team and Lewis made him pass.Bob Beamesderfer wrote:Hamilton DSQ'd from Australia:

Finally a FIA decision I can agree with.
Do not lie to gain 3rd place - I would like to know who in the team came up with that briliant idea - McLaren's "squeky clean" image tarnished again...
Justice served!

Re: F1: Australian GP Results
well. trulli got to stand on the podium.
got some headache for a while, and then regain his podium.
not too bad overall. it would have been annoying if they stripped him of the podium and put Hamilton on there instead at the end of the race.

Now, if the FIA could just get together one more time and remove Vettels unfair 10 grid penality for this weekends race...

Re: F1: Australian GP Results
Part of why he got that was he continued to drive the car on 3 wheels.Kristoffer Gjevre wrote:Now, if the FIA could just get together one more time and remove Vettels unfair 10 grid penality for this weekends race...
Whoever replaced Ron Dennis on the pit wall needs a talking to.
Re: F1: Australian GP Results
well, that probably had a part in the penalty, but in terms of actual penalties handed down, it was 10 spots for the race incident, and then 50k for the team for instructing him to keep going.Bob Beamesderfer wrote:Part of why he got that was he continued to drive the car on 3 wheels.Kristoffer Gjevre wrote:Now, if the FIA could just get together one more time and remove Vettels unfair 10 grid penality for this weekends race...

i still think 10 spot is rather harsh, especially when most people consider it a normal race incident.

WTF??????????? Man that was a DUMB move by Mclaren-Mercedes. Now the FIA gains more credibility in the original $50 mil fine 2 seasons ago against them.Bob Beamesderfer wrote:Hamilton DSQ'd from Australia:

I think the 10 spot is in the rules because it's been handed out before for infractions real and imagined.Jeff Shyu wrote:well, that probably had a part in the penalty, but in terms of actual penalties handed down, it was 10 spots for the race incident, and then 50k for the team for instructing him to keep going.Bob Beamesderfer wrote:Part of why he got that was he continued to drive the car on 3 wheels.Kristoffer Gjevre wrote:Now, if the FIA could just get together one more time and remove Vettels unfair 10 grid penality for this weekends race...

Re: F1: Australian GP Results
BTW, getting off the topic of how Vettel got screwed and how stupid a move Hamilton/McLaren made in lying to the stewards, I just figured out what the new cars look like. It took me a while, because I couldn't picture it from the static pictures I saw before seeing them in action. I just finished watching the TiVO of it last night and it came to me: with the wider/lower front wings and the smaller rear wings, they look like a vacuum cleaner that's been reclined flat to the floor.

I'll never look at my Dyson the same way.
