My pessimistic mind was wondering if the R8 was a way of hiding the Tesla's classification.

Kinda like what happened to Farah when Michael died... :|
I think so... No way it could run with an Elise... Over 800lbs heavier, basically the same size wheels... And you'd need to charge it between runs to get the stated performance...

Hmm, just looked at the Tesla's spec sheet for the first time. It's got the somewhat narrow Elise-sized wheels, but is straddled with about 700lbs. more weight, and no limited slip. Its torque is pretty killer but I think the other things hold it back pretty far.

Of course, since it has no limited slip, and the electric motor is "smaller" than 1.9 liters, it would appear to be a fully legal STS car.

Isn't the "sunset rule" just for stock class? Is SP affected too?
STOCK ONLY!!! :)

ITEM 7) Add new second paragraph to 13.0 as follows:
“A car will remain eligible for Divisional, National Tour, and National Championship events through the end of the 30th calendar
year after the manufacturer-designated model year of the car.”

OK, so I was wrong about this... While the rule would be for Stock, ST and SP do inherit some Stock rules...

In ST this would apply directly based on the following in Appendix A:

STREET TOURING CATEGORY
Vehicles eligible for this category must meet the Stock category eligibility requirements, as a minimum. Note that 3.2 ‘VEHICLE CLASSIFICATION’, also applies to the Street Touring Category, including adding or removing cars to/ from the exclusion lists. For listings below, a sports car based vehicle would include those that are 2+2 variants of 2 seat sports cars.

In SP it would be a little different:

"Cars running in Street Prepared Category must have been series produced with normal road touring equipment, capable of being licensed for normal road use in the United States, and normally sold and delivered through the manufacturer’s retail sales outlets in the United States. Cars not specifically listed in Stock or Street Prepared Category classes in Appendix A must have been produced in quantities of at least 1000 in a 12 month period to be eligible for Street Prepared Category."

So in the case of SP I believe that anything that is removed from Stock's Ap.A, that's not specifically classed in SP's Ap.A and doesn't meet the 1000/12 rule, would no longer be legal for SP. I'm not sure if there's many cars (if any) that fall into this...

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, which I probably am.

Based on those two excerpts, it looks like ST cars would get retired, but SP cars would be OK.

Yea, that is how I see it.

The sunset rule is not the only way to force cars to retire. Re classing works great too.

Take note of Andy Hollis' post here:

Looks like they may not have intended for the Stock-class sunset rule to apply to Street Touring. If you have a strong feeling one way or the other, write in and let them know how you feel.

A while back I proposed a steady cap at 1984, but it didn't get anywhere. Considering the somewhat limited modification allowance in ST, I think an age cap makes sense. The rolling 30 year is a bit Logan's Run but it should work just as well I guess.

 at the Logan's Run reference, 30 years...I'm not necessarily against it. I hope I've moved on in ten years.

haha, yeah, how impossible would it be for new folks to get the car to have in 2019 if it was still 89 civics... I mean as it is you can't get a stock 240 to challenge them, ;)
