Rim size width for 13" VW (4 X 100)

Post by Daryl Slawnikowski »

I think know the basic, i.e. speedometer speed and lower profile provides a stiffer tire. Question I have is we just bought a set of 4 (Yokohama Advan A048) 205/60/13. I only have 5.5” stock aluminum (~11.5 lbs) and 6” steel rims (~16.5 lbs). These are for the old white Scirocco 4 X 100 bolt pattern. Is there much disadvantage on running the old stock aluminum rims (5.5) over the 6" steel rims? This is a tire wear question as for now, as I know once we do get back to the attack it is mostly about seat time for a driving advantages. Doug what your take on this?

Money issues have put a shut down to our activity for the past several months. Hoping to get back later in July / August. Hoping on coming down on Saturday to be a spectator, and ride along with some one.

13 x 6 is the better way to go.

yes, but from his 2 options it sounded like it may be a stocker. in that case the 5.5 width can only be used.

The car he is asking about is not stock.
At this point he is using the wheels he has and not getting new wheels. Perhaps next year he will get some new wheels.

I have run on 6 inch wide wheels and I was surprised how well they worked.

This is some pictures of my old old old Scirocco from a long time ago on 6 in wheels.
(This is not the really nice red car that some of you remember, it is a different one)

Doug,

There are easier ways to get the body mastic out of the car, but...

It took me one week to get it cleaned up and running and I did not miss a race that year.

Explosion at 3 AM. That is all. I got the silver car that I am driving now 4 weeks after this happened but it did not race till 2007 (a few laps in 2004). I raced the "exploded" car till May of 2003. The other red car was built in 2003 to replace the "exploded" car.

I will never know but the theories are:

1) Fire works landed on or under the car cover.
2) Homeless guy on drugs who worked as an illegal sub contractor (and hang out at a crack house) set it off at 2 AM. Two other fires were reported at the same time within 3 blocks, One was a sofa that was set out for a garage sale, the other was a trash can. The homeless guy was watching the car burn at 3 AM. Cops, fire department and others believe it was him.
2) The brake light switch may have got stuck "on" and the heat melted the plastic taillight. I have no evidence of this but note the back of the car is what burned.

The hatch glass exploded from the heat and reports were that there was a large ball of flame.

Sorry long time no post. Weather up in the High Desert 100+ degrees is betting the hell out of me. I don't even go out in the garage till after 10:00 PM. $ is a little tight, I have a new set A048 of 205 / 60 /13 that I want to run come Sept.
