An example. 100 100 100 75 75 100 100 100 100 100. You points w/two drops: 800
With an Avg.: 100 100 100 75 75 100 100 100 100 AVG (85) Your points w/two drops: 785

In other words, you'll never have the chance to out score your average. In the above case the best I could "score" for the missed event is 85 - not much of a fighting chance in a close season.

And as far as "fact" or not; it is no more or less "fact" than just about anything else that we do here. It's more like common sense that in a region that sends 30+ members each year to Nationals that we don't schedule a conflicting event - you are effectively excluding 15% of entrants (based on a typical field of 200). And given that it is an Eboard event, many EBoard members may not even be present!

And again, is there a problem in scheduling a second event in late Aug.? It would also be a nice way to tune up for Nats.

Also, if you don't want to loose the date in Sept., make it a school - we need one of those (in addition to the Ladies School in Nov.) anyway.
It's unfortunate that there are no other venues available in August or September this year. We got bumped at CS. I couldn't hear why nor could the dates.

As far as later in August, ever since the calendar was first drawn in 2007, I make the comment of no day time events from early July to after the Nationals. NASCAR is early this year at CS which killed late August and early Sept. People have looked into other venues with no luck.

At least I called Bill's reaction right.

BMWCCA - SD Chapter also got "bumped" out of their August date at Qualcomm so no event until mid-Sept. Same weekend as Nationals. Not that it affects me but I know we'll be short on instructors as some are also SCCA members who may go to Nationals.

a little off topic, but did anyone look into this site brought up in that Long Beach drifting competition?

i just looked out my window through a monocular, and confirm that the lot is, in fact, empty.

Bill, 850 points through 9 events is an average of 94.4444 . . . not 85. Adding the average for the nine events to your total would give you 794.4444 . . . through ten events with the two drops of 75 each.... if the olde retired math teacher pushed the right buttons--- :D

Looks awesome.

By the way, San Diego is probably going to have a Nationals test and tune day on Monday Sept 1st at Qualcomm. PROBABLY.

I gave some contact info to the committee awhile back. If you're that close, can you get the contact or at least the name of the company?

Nationals Test 'n Tune @ Camarillo? Same slippery surface as HPT, sand and all ...

Camarillo is usually available, and inexpensive. I have contact info if anyone needs it.

No event seems to have more uncertainty with end time as NOTLD. Give it up. Plan on an allnighter.

I'm just kidding--I'm planning on being up all night independently of how long the event runs. It's my birthday! :D

Is there a test & tune day for this event as well?
Or should I ask do all the events have T&T days?

No. Those are only for Divisionals or National type of events (i.e. Tours, Pros, Finales)

In theory your "test-n-tune" would be the regular "practice" day (Sat) before a champ event (Sun).

NOTLD is a special case in that it STARTS on a Saturday but ends on a Sunday.

Reminder.............for this event ONLY, since it starts on Saturday, pre-registration still follows the rules of closing @10pm PST two days before event. Thus it's THURSDAY not Friday. You've been warned.

Allow me to clarify/amplify Mr. Trunk Monkey's comment.

The kind of specific, short course Test and Tune event that preceded the Divisional is what takes place before a Divisional or National Solo event, ie, a short course with typical elements is set up so that final adjustments can be made on the same surface as competition will run. The Friday of a Pro Solo weekend, practice starts are available, ie, the Christmas tree is operated and 60-foot times are recorded [when that part of the system works], but you don't run anything like a real course. However, the important part is figuring out how to launch your car/tire setup on the surface in use.

For Regional Championships, normally we have a "Practice" on Saturdays and a Championship on Sundays. The practice is essentially a Test and Tune. It isn't set up to accommodate novices as much as the Sunday Championship. Unfortunately, the word Championship implies something more lofty than it is. Our "Championships" are in fact simply "Rounds" of the overall season Championship race for points card holders. We really should call them "200x Championship Round 1-x" to better describe what they are.

Most, if not all, of what I've written here is covered in the information for Novices found in the pdfs linked here: http://www.solo2.com/

Actually, you would have been lucky to get into one of our regular "practices." They are often over-subscribed.

I wanted to ride with you and/or drive your car on Friday, but I was either running the course or working when you were there. I don't have any experience with Fox body Mustangs, but we have some folks in the region who do and I'm sure they'd be happy to help.

If you come out to the August event, keep in mind that you can have an instructor ride with you and the instructor can drive your car and that run won't count against the 3 competition runs you'll take. The only hang is if you run in the first group because the instructor can't instruct before he/she has taken the competition runs.
