$100 off set of 4 various brands.

Well, I'm glad you asked. I think there was a major tire distributor who put a lot of money into our local, divisional event. Money that helped fund this years operations and has helped us not increase fees for how many years in a row now? Oh, and there was a link set up at the bottom of each page where we get kick-backs from purchases. Actual checks. Real money. Money that lets us host a novice school at El Toro. And order new equipment. And finish the CTV. I don't think it was Discount Tire though. I'll need to check my records.Eric Clements wrote:How much does Discount Tire support SCCA Solo?
Not countering what KJ stated about our current Tire Rack contributions....Eric Clements wrote:How much does Discount Tire support SCCA Solo?
Bob, it's the same as if I were to advertise BMWCCA events or PCA (Porsche) events on these forums. We have to protect our investment (Cal Club Solo region) and investors (aka our sponsors) from a financial point of view.Bob Plante wrote:Just have a moderator delete the thread, won't be the first time.
If you ever read any of Mako's posts, he has a signature of a quote from our Forums administrator Aaron Goldsmith...."The road to hell is paved with good intentions". Your intentions are good just the execution is bad.Bob Plante wrote:I was just trying to help out other fellow autoxers save $100. during economic hard times. I am not so "parochial" as some others, I guess.
My bad.
Though that is true but we (each club) fight for every dollar therefore don't advertise their events. You don't see PCA or BMWCCA advertising our events on their forums do you? Just an FYI Bob.Bob Plante wrote:In my SCCA home region we (SCCA) get cooperate with PCA and BMWCCA to have a work party to patch the west lot.
That was in the PAST and that's great that they "did" that (hence past-tense). They are not supporting us now. The Tire Rack is.Bob Plante wrote:As Craig mentioned, Discount Tire (Chino I think) offered up their showroom space for a tire seminar (years ago) when I was just getting started. They had pizza/drinks/raffle etc. It was advertised & coordinated with SCCA. I attended. That's not support?
We have rules Bob.Bob Plante wrote:Maybe some people have short memories or just don't care about old relationships.
I cannot seem to post anything lately that doesn't tick off some people.
Whatever.
Damn, those Hoosiers are expensive! :unimpressed: Looks like you could use a discount. ;)George Schilling wrote:my purchases have been in the range of $6000 this year alone
Rude? Where was I rude? I know Bob, and I like Bob. Just pointing out what the region wants and doesn't want. I was in no way rude to Bob.Craig Naylor wrote:I'm sorry Gio has taken such a rude demeanor about the subject. Again thank you for the post, we don't all feel the way Gio apparently does.
Oh no, quite the opposite. I know EXACTLY how much high-quality STREET tires are (which sometimes can be more expensive than R-Compound tires), and in this economic job environment, why do you think I haven't been out to an event in almost 3yrs?T. Oh I think they would be offended because they paid to advertise their business on our site. So what's to stop someone else posting "Hey Joe Schmo down the block has $50 window tinting...great deals". I'm sure Toby wouldn't be happy about that.Craig Naylor wrote:I don't think most of them would be offended by someones post about a great deal they found somewhere independently. I don't think any of them would come on to the site and damn of of our members for not choosing them due to their support of our program. I do believe they would hope to be at least considered as an option, and given a opportunity to compete for their business.
I wonder if Aaron can make the forums in a frame so that the banners atop and bottom are like "headers/footers" frozen but the forums are scrollable. That way we can see the Tire Rack banner constantly.Mako Koiwai wrote:Good idea to click on the Tire Rack link below once a day to check on the various discounts being offered. ;)
Actually, yes - we do. Will and others forward the requests for ad space to me, and I respond as our chairman. Lately we've been getting lots of hits from ad brokers who want to place, for example, insurance links up there. Kinda ironic given that most insurers exclude what we do...Rick Brown wrote:While the current advertisers are all people I know and trust, do we investigate those that wish to advertise with us to any extent? If Jo Blow's Body Shop said here's my ad and my money do we turn him down if no one in the community can recommend him? Do we turn down someone who has a similar business to one that already advertises with us?
