Hey, I need John. Anybody got his contact info.
I want to machine my top mounts. I think what I have planned is pretty simple. I considered doing it myself, but a machine shop would be a much better plan.

be aware of bottoming out the shock valving itself.

Jon, these are the extended hats so I think I'm well safe with bottoming out the shock shaft. I just need about 7mm's of extra shock body clearance and I think that will eliminate the body striking the spring locator lip as the first thing that hits under compression and make it instead the control arm.
Note that that spring locator lip on the Ground Control tops is like 3x the length down from the top that the "stock" height skunk2 tops are. And they are smaller in diameter. So, I want to cut down the ring to the skunk length and then ever so slightly bore it out a touch.
I need to compare the stock control arm with the skunk2 and see how much travel I might be losing with the aftermarket piece.
On a separate issue.... I have a right side bind I can't identify. I can swing my left side front (without spring/shock) up and down freely with my hand. I need a jack on the right side.

The bushings are a year old.

are they polyurethane? if they are they are probably in need of maintenance. Polys usually need to be relubed often. I do mine once or twice every 6 months.

Hey Steve, if it makes you feel any better, K-Mo probably hasn't lubed his bushings since Rhoades installed them in 04 or 05. :gpower:Steve Ekstrand wrote:They are Poly's.

You are right! At the time (late '02 early '03) we would've built an '88 Std Civic if we could have found one for a reasonable price. Boy that kid K-mo is old skool, he was really one of the original Lemmings
The springs/shocks went in in '03 (same rates today as then), but we didn't get around to bushings (or the exhaust, or the fresh motor, or the big swaybar, or the 7.5" wheels, or the ".etc" wing) until '04. Ken won in '03 with a right trailing arm bushing that was completely gonzo. He won again in '05 with a sorted car, but a pretty severe tire disadvantage. This year, there is no tire disadvantage.
Those ProParts Konis are still kicking major ass in their 6th consecutive season on Ken's car, after probably 1000+ autocross runs, tens of thousands of street miles, even a couple track days. They also did the shocks on my 240sx, which kicked butt. It's no wonder I keep going back to them...

Steve, I'd check the torque on your control arm bolts. One or more of them are probably overtightened, pinching the bushing and causing the apparent bind.
